Is this right for me?
Every mouth is different. Your dentist will confirm what suits you after an examination.
- An X-ray shows a wisdom tooth buried in bone or lying sideways
- A wisdom tooth sits close to the nerve in the lower jaw
- You have had repeated infections around a partly erupted wisdom tooth
- You would prefer to be asleep for the procedure
What happens
3D scan
We map the tooth and nearby nerve so the surgery is planned carefully.
Consent and anaesthetic
We explain the risks, such as numbness, and plan your anaesthetic.
Surgery
The gum is opened, the tooth removed, often in sections, and the area stitched.
Follow-up
We review healing about a week later.
Recovery and aftercare
Expect swelling and stiffness for several days. Rest, use ice packs, take pain relief as advised and keep to soft food. Rinse gently with warm salt water from the day after surgery. Call us if you have fever, worsening pain or numbness that does not wear off.

Questions about impacted wisdom tooth surgery
Clear answers to the questions our patients ask most.
How much does it cost to have all four wisdom teeth out?
You are quoted on costs before any procedure starts. No two patients are the same — an upper wisdom tooth that has come through fully is usually straightforward, and a lower one impacted under bone is a surgical procedure. Your written estimate is itemised per tooth after the assessment.
Can I get all four wisdom teeth out while asleep?
Yes. All four are usually removed in a single appointment under general anaesthetic, and you go home the same day. Position and nerve proximity are established with CBCT imaging beforehand.
How much does wisdom teeth removal cost in Rockhampton?
Before anything is touched, we look at your jaw in three dimensions: the shape of each root, and exactly where the nerve runs underneath. That scan is on the screen next to you. You see what we see. Sometimes it shows the tooth is fine where it is, and we tell you that.
What makes a general anaesthetic session cost more or less?
Time, mostly. Session time is charged hourly with a two-hour minimum, and the anaesthetist fee also reflects duration. A single straightforward case sits at the minimum; a full arch at four to six hours, or both arches at up to eight, costs proportionally more. Your surgical plan estimates the duration before booking, which is what makes an accurate quote possible.
Do I pay everything to A2ZDental?
No. The dental treatment and the anaesthetic session facility fee are billed by A2ZDental. The anaesthetist invoices you separately, because they are an independent practitioner rather than part of the practice. Knowing this in advance avoids the surprise of a second account arriving after the day.
Why can you not tell me the anaesthetist fee upfront?
Because it is not ours to set. The anaesthetist is an independent specialist who determines and bills their own fee, the same way an anaesthetist does for a procedure in hospital. What we can do is obtain their figure for your planned procedure before you commit, so you are deciding with a complete cost rather than an estimate.
Will my private health fund cover treatment under general anaesthetic?
It depends on your level of cover and which components it applies to. Hospital and dental cover treat session, anaesthetist and dental fees differently, and some funds cover none of it. Check directly with your fund before booking rather than assuming, and ask specifically about all three components.
Can reception get me the anaesthetist quote before I decide?
Yes. Ring the practice and reception will request the anaesthetist fee for your planned procedure and its expected duration. Written costs for all three components — treatment, session fee and anaesthetist — belong in your hands before you are asked to proceed with anything.
