What happens
Assess
We examine the area and take X-rays, and 3D imaging if the tooth is near nerves or the sinus.
Choose your anaesthetic
We talk through local anaesthetic, sedation or general anaesthetic in-house.
Surgery
The tooth is removed carefully, and dissolving stitches placed if needed.
Follow-up
We check healing and answer any questions.
Recovery and aftercare
Bite on gauze for the first hour. For 24 hours, do not rinse hard, spit, smoke or drink through a straw. Use ice packs, eat soft food, and take pain relief as advised. Call us if bleeding or swelling gets worse.

Questions about oral surgery
Clear answers to the questions our patients ask most.
Does having a tooth out hurt?
The area is fully numbed, so you feel pressure rather than pain during the extraction. Afterwards there is usually some soreness for a few days, managed with ordinary pain relief. Tell reception if you are anxious — sedation and general anaesthetic are both available. Sedation and general anaesthetic are quoted separately, in addition to the treatment fee.
How long does it take to heal after an extraction?
The gum usually closes over within one to two weeks, and the bone underneath continues filling in for several months. Most people are back to normal eating within a few days. You will be given written aftercare instructions on the day.
Can I have several teeth out at once?
Yes, and it is often preferable to spreading it across appointments. If several teeth are involved, or if you would rather not be awake, this can be done under general anaesthetic in a single session on site. Sedation and general anaesthetic are quoted separately, in addition to the treatment fee.
How much does it cost to have a tooth out in Rockhampton?
The figure comes after the tooth has been looked at. A straightforward tooth is simpler than one that is broken down, has curved roots or needs a surgical approach, and an X-ray is usually what tells them apart. You are given the figure in writing before treatment starts.
What are my options for the gap afterwards?
An implant, a bridge, or a denture — or leaving it, if the tooth was at the back and not visible. Each has different cost, timeframe and bone requirements. It is worth discussing before the extraction, because some options are easier if planned in advance.
Will I be left without a tooth at the front?
No. If a front tooth has to come out, a temporary replacement is normally arranged so you do not leave with a visible gap. Raise it when the extraction is planned so it can be made beforehand.
What does having a tooth taken out involve?
The first question is whether it has to come out at all. A three-dimensional scan shows what is left under the gum, which is usually more than it looks from above. If it can be saved we will say so, and if it cannot we will tell you what goes in its place before we take it out.
How much does it cost to have all four wisdom teeth out?
You are quoted on costs before any procedure starts. No two patients are the same — an upper wisdom tooth that has come through fully is usually straightforward, and a lower one impacted under bone is a surgical procedure. Your written estimate is itemised per tooth after the assessment.
