Is this right for me?
Every mouth is different. Your dentist will confirm what suits you after an examination.
- You want to avoid fillings and bigger treatment later
- You or your child get cavities often
- You have a dry mouth, braces or other risks for decay
- You want advice on brushing, flossing and diet
What happens
Risk check
We look at your history, diet, saliva and gums to see where you are most at risk.
Clean
We remove plaque and tartar so your gums can stay healthy.
Protect
We apply fluoride varnish, and fissure sealants on back teeth where they help.
Plan
We agree a check-up interval and home routine that suits you.
Recovery and aftercare
After fluoride varnish, avoid eating or drinking for 30 minutes and skip brushing until the evening so it can work. Sealants can be used straight away.

That is common here, and nobody will judge you. Book a check-up and clean, and leave with a written plan. Anything more waits until you say yes.
Questions about preventive dentistry
Clear answers to the questions our patients ask most.
How much is a check-up and clean?
The figure comes after the examination, because what is involved depends on what is found — how much hard deposit there is, and whether X-rays change the answer. You take away a written plan with the sequence and the item numbers for your health fund. HICAPS is on site, so any rebate comes off on the day.
What should I expect at a first appointment?
An examination, any imaging needed, and a written plan you take away. Nothing is decided on the day, and nothing further is booked until you have the plan in front of you.
How often should I have a dental check-up?
Recall intervals are set to your circumstances rather than a fixed six months. Some patients are seen more often, some less, based on what the examination shows.
I haven't been to a dentist in years. What happens now?
Years is common and it is not remarkable to us. An examination, images where they are indicated, and a written plan you take away. Nothing gets treated on the day and you set the pace from there. The people who worry most about being judged are almost always the ones with the least to be judged for.
How much is a check-up and clean in Rockhampton?
The figure comes after the examination. What moves it is how much cleaning is needed and whether X-rays change the answer. A first appointment is 30 minutes and produces a written plan with the sequence and the item numbers for your health fund. HICAPS is on site, so any rebate comes off on the day.
What help is available with the cost of children's dental care?
Reception checks what your child is eligible for when you book, so you know before the appointment rather than at the counter afterwards. Anything that applies is itemised in the written plan, and payment plans are available for the rest.
How much does a filling cost?
It depends on the size of the cavity and which tooth it is in, which is why the figure comes after the examination rather than before it. You are quoted before treatment begins, not after. Payment plans are available — ask reception when you book.
How often should I have a check-up?
Every six to twelve months suits most adults. If you have gum disease, a high decay rate or a dry mouth, more frequent visits are usually recommended. Your dentist will suggest an interval based on what they find rather than a fixed rule.
