- You need a lot of treatment and want it done in one session
- You are having wisdom teeth, implant or full arch surgery
- A child cannot manage treatment awake
What happens
Assessment
We plan your treatment and check your medical history; the anaesthetist may need more information.
Before the day
You receive fasting and medication instructions and a quote for the dental and anaesthetist fees.
On the day
The specialist anaesthetist puts you to sleep and monitors you throughout while the dentist completes the treatment.
Recovery
You wake in recovery and go home when you are ready, with an adult.
Recovery and aftercare
Do not drive, drink alcohol, sign documents or make important decisions for 24 hours. An adult must take you home and stay with you. Follow the aftercare for the treatment you had, and call us if anything worries you.

Questions about general anaesthetic
Clear, direct answers to help you make informed decisions.
What makes a general anaesthetic session cost more or less?
Time, mostly. Session time is charged hourly with a two-hour minimum, and the anaesthetist fee also reflects duration. A single straightforward case sits at the minimum; a full arch at four to six hours, or both arches at up to eight, costs proportionally more. Your surgical plan estimates the duration before booking, which is what makes an accurate quote possible.
Do I pay everything to A2ZDental?
No. The dental treatment and the anaesthetic session facility fee are billed by A2ZDental. The anaesthetist invoices you separately, because they are an independent practitioner rather than part of the practice. Knowing this in advance avoids the surprise of a second account arriving after the day.
Why can you not tell me the anaesthetist fee upfront?
Because it is not ours to set. The anaesthetist is an independent specialist who determines and bills their own fee, the same way an anaesthetist does for a procedure in hospital. What we can do is obtain their figure for your planned procedure before you commit, so you are deciding with a complete cost rather than an estimate.
Will my private health fund cover treatment under general anaesthetic?
It depends on your level of cover and which components it applies to. Hospital and dental cover treat session, anaesthetist and dental fees differently, and some funds cover none of it. Check directly with your fund before booking rather than assuming, and ask specifically about all three components.
Can reception get me the anaesthetist quote before I decide?
Yes. Ring the practice and reception will request the anaesthetist fee for your planned procedure and its expected duration. Written costs for all three components — treatment, session fee and anaesthetist — belong in your hands before you are asked to proceed with anything.
How much does dental treatment under general anaesthetic cost in Rockhampton?
Three separate items, from three separate parties. The dental treatment itself, quoted by your dentist. The anaesthetic session facility fee, charged by the hour with a minimum session length. And the anaesthetist fee, set and billed independently by the specialist anaesthetist — A2ZDental never estimates it. Reception can obtain all three in writing before you decide, and a booking fee holds the general anaesthetic appointment once you do.
Can dental treatment be done under general anaesthetic in Rockhampton?
Yes. A2ZDental has a specialist anaesthetist attending, with anaesthetically trained staff, so treatment that would otherwise take several appointments awake can usually be completed in one session, and you go home the same day.
Do I have to go to Brisbane for dental surgery?
Not for most surgical dentistry. A2ZDental has a specialist anaesthetist attending in Rockhampton with a visiting specialist anaesthetist, so complex extractions, implants and full-arch treatment can be planned and completed in Central Queensland.
