Dental crowns and bridges
A cracked tooth rarely heals itself. It usually spreads until it breaks. A crown covers and strengthens a weak or broken tooth. A bridge replaces a missing tooth by joining a false tooth to the teeth either side. Many crowns are made and fitted in one visit with CEREC, right here.
- Crowns
- Often 1 visit with CEREC
- Bridges

Is this right for me?
Every mouth is different. Your dentist will confirm what suits you after an examination.
- A tooth is badly broken or has a very large filling
- A tooth has had root canal treatment
- You have a gap from a missing tooth and the teeth beside it need crowns anyway
- You want to improve the shape or colour of a damaged tooth
What happens
Plan
We examine the tooth, take X-rays and talk through crown, bridge and implant options.
Prepare
Under local anaesthetic we shape the tooth and take a digital scan or impression.
Temporary
You wear a temporary crown while your permanent one is made.
Fit
We check the fit, colour and bite, then cement the crown or bridge in place.
Recovery and aftercare
Be gentle with the temporary crown and avoid sticky food. Once the permanent crown is fitted, clean around it as you would a natural tooth. Under a bridge you will need floss threaders or small brushes.

Questions about crowns and bridges
Clear answers to the questions our patients ask most.
Can I get a crown in one visit?
Yes. Crowns are designed and milled on site while you wait, so most are completed in a single visit with no impression putty and no temporary crown. What it costs is set out in your written plan after the examination, with the item numbers for your health fund.
What is a white filling and how long does one last?
Composite resin, bonded to the tooth and shaded to match it, placed in a single appointment. How long it lasts depends on how much tooth was lost and where it sits — a small one in a front tooth is a different proposition from a large one carrying the bite at the back. The extent is measured and imaged first, because what shows on the surface is not always all of it.
What is the cheapest way to replace missing teeth?
A denture is generally the least costly option and an implant the most, with a bridge between them. Bone quality often decides which are genuinely available to you, which is established with 3D imaging at assessment before any estimate is given.
What are the options for replacing several missing teeth?
What your bone will hold usually decides this more than preference does. A bridge borrows support from the teeth either side. A denture rests on the gum and comes out at night. The scan shows which is realistic, and you get both answers rather than one.
Do you make crowns on site?
Yes. With CEREC, many crowns are designed, milled and fitted at our Berserker practice, often in a single visit. Bridges usually take two visits.
